Editi Obot, Sierra Leone, Aug – Sep 2025

1.  From 7th-9th August, Bear valley Bible Institute, Kenema, in the  eastern part of Sierra Leone organized a gospel seminar exclusively for preachers and church leaders all over the country with the theme, ” CONTEMPORARY CHALLENGES OF THE CHURCH IN SIERRA LEONE” .  Sub topics were selected from this theme. Challenges such as lack of congregational cooperation,  Religious apathy, overdependence on foreign support were carefully handled. More than 70 preachers and church leaders participated at the seminar. We hope to make it an annual event by the grace of God.

2. On 30th August, congregations in the western area of Freetown hosted a one day evangelism seminar. The  seminar which had as it’s theme ,” THE IMPACTS OF EVANGELISM ON THE GROWTH OF THE CHURCH” was hosted the the church of Christ, Gloucester.  By the the end of the seminar which was attended by both men and women of the congregations in Freetown, the participants resolved that they were going to be more active in spreading the gospel to the lost souls ,beginning from their family members and close relations.

On my way back from the seminar, I came across a sister, Gbambe sumah. She was baptized into the church at  Trade Center few years back during one of our evangelism outings. She later backslided . I was fortunate to have her time for more bible studies and she promised to come back to the Christian fold. She went and was restored by the church and promised never to go back to the world anymore. She is now even more active than what she was before and needs our prayers.

3. On 27th September,  the FREETOWN MISSION COMMITTEE hosted another gospel meeting in Sierra Leone. The major aim for all these seminars is help the people of the country to stand on their feet and be matured enough spiritually to see the need of taking responsibilities in moving the church in the country forward. In this seminar, two topics were carefully selected and treated as follows:

(I) Giving that glorifies God

(ii) Biblical ways of raising funds for church work.

Many Christians attended the seminar.

4. On Sunday, 30th September, after over a period of sixty years of the existence of the Church of Christ in the country, the members came together for their maiden edition of helping to raise funds to help reach out to those areas where there are no congregations and to help the younger congregations that are still struggling to survive. I spoke on the topic , “GOD LOVES A CHEERFUL GIVER”, (2nd Corinthians 9:7).  The churches donated generously. The aim is to assist the local preachers do more work in the local congregations. We are truly moving forward.
